Bath Regional Career and Technical Center

Sumner Averill recently graduated from Wiscasset High School, and having completed the two year Building Construction Program at Bath Regional Career and Technical Center, has returned home from the SkillsUSA National Championships a Bronze medal finalist in the Carpentry Competition. Amidst a field of 43 high school competitors, Sumner was recognized for both his hands on building construction skills and his written industry evaluation exam.

Sumner participated in the SkillsUSA Maine, Carpentry Competition this past winter in Bangor, winning a Gold medal. This first place finish enabled him to represent the State of Maine at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Kansas City, MO. This national championship brings student competitors from across the country to compete, attend industry and leadership seminars, and to visit one of the largest industry trade shows for high school and post-secondary students in the country. More than 5,000 students compete in more than 90 separate events. Total attendance for the week long conference is approximately 15,000.

Sumner recently completed the two year Building Construction program at Bath Regional Career and Technical Center in Bath. For instructor Tony Trippi, this is the second year in a row that one of his students have won a Gold medal at the State level, and have gone on to represent the State of Maine at the SkillsUSA National Championships in Kansas City.
